Is hard working in the game’s industry as a christian?

Not really! (At least not yet, lol.) I actually have enjoyed a lot of the interactions with other devs. So many of them are kind and supportive of each other.  I’ve had good conversations with people I respect where I felt respected too, despite disagreement. The worst has been when someone obviously thought I was ridiculous for believing in God, but, relatively speaking, that’s not a big deal. Seems reasonable to expect.

There are definitely groups that have it much harder in the industry than me as a Christian white dude. For example (not to leave anyone out), women are still not treated particularly well and subject to a lot of discrimination. That upsets me, and I’ve become more aware of it since I’m married to such a capable woman. She’s not a dev, but she can’t go into the hardware store (she loves building stuff) without being treated condescendingly, like a lost kid–and the reality is she knows more than I do! Once, some guy came into our house and saw one of her projects and was asking me about it… and he couldn’t handle that it was her project, not mine. So many women go through this kind of thing, and that’s just one example of a group that struggles in this industry.

And lots of people suffer from depression, anxiety, and the like. I’m not perfect at this, but I think if I’m trying to act like Jesus, the response is to not worry so much about how people view me, and to focus more how I can stand up for and encourage others. What are they going through? How can I help?

This is still something I’m learning how to do, since a flaw of mine is that I’m so reliant on the validation of others. I obsess a lot about how people see me. Even now, I’m feeling a bit of fear about posting this, because who knows how people will respond? But like I mentioned, the fact that people might think I’m stupid for believing in God is small beans compared to what other people go through. I want to learn to be someone that doesn’t focus so much on how my pride could hypothetically be damaged, and more on how to love and treat others like Jesus did.

Not sure if that answers your question! :P
